Wire hired dogs can help save lives.
According to a statement released Tuesday by the Florida Department of Agriculture, wire hired are “an ideal solution to save lives from wire and other devices that are placed in a home.”
The statement says wire hires are not dangerous.
“These animals can perform routine tasks and are trained to handle any electrical devices that may be placed in their homes,” the statement says.
Wire hired pets are often the first to arrive to a home when a fire is reported.
They can quickly identify wires in their home, alert a firefighter and help with the investigation, the statement reads.
In the past year, the department says it has helped save at least three lives and has recovered more than 2,000 items from fire-related incidents.
